Impressionists Revisited

Up for auction at Sotheby's in New York on the 6th of November: charcoal and pastel Quatre danseuses by Edgar Degas, Les deux bouquets by Marc Chagall, and Nature morte aux fruits et pot de gingembre by Paul Cezanne. The Degas is expected to go for $250,000 to $350,000, the Chagall for between $1,400,000 to $1,800,000, and the Cezanne for a whopping $28,000,000 to $35,000,000. Wow.

I love the Impressionists. Truly my favorite. I'm not sure what that means. Maybe there's a Blogthings quiz about what one's taste in art says about oneself.

Hmmmm...I'm not sure what it means either, but at least we're in the same boat. My favorite of favorites has always been Monet, especially when I see prints of his large waterlilies and garden canvases from Giverny. I used to wish that I had lived in the era of the Impressionists so I could've met Monet, and Degas, and even little Toulouse Lautrec. But then I realized that they didn't have things like deodorant and anti-bacterial soap back then, so eeeuw. Some things really are more beautiful when appreciated from afar ;-)
